Vocal Music

Welcome to the choir page! We are so excited to begin and continue the choral tradition at Standing Bear High School. We are committed to helping students grow in their musical knowledge, appreciation, and skills, as well as fostering a community where self-expression, collaboration, inclusion, risk-taking, creativity, and empathy flourish.

Recent and upcoming collaborations include:

• Serving as the choir for the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra's "Deck the Halls" concert at the Lied Center
• Studio ensemble for composer Philip Daniel's original work, commissioned by Ballet X, which premiered in New York City.

• Opening act for the celebrated Miami Arts Studio
• Featured ensemble at Nebraska Wesleyan's "Big Sing"
• Multi-year participant in Abendmusik's "Youth Masterworks Series"
• Commissioning of new works by composers such as Philip Daniel

Our 10-12, auditioned choir is the premiere vocal ensemble at Standing Bear High School. This ensemble will perform 3-5 concerts throughout the year, sing at District Music Contest, collaborate with Moore Middle School and other feeder elementary groups, and more! This ensemble focuses on advanced musical concepts, music theory, and vocal technique.

Our 10-12, auditioned choir for soprano and alto voices at Standing Bear High School. This ensemble will perform 3-5 concerts throughout the year, collaborate with Moore Middle School and other feeder elementary groups, and more! This ensemble focuses on intermediate musical concepts, music theory, and vocal technique.

Our 9-12, non-auditioned choir at Standing Bear High School. This ensemble will perform 3-5 concerts throughout the year, collaborate with Moore Middle School and other feeder elementary groups, and more! This ensemble focuses on beginning and intermediate musical concepts, music theory, and vocal technique.

This ensemble provides students with the opportunity to explore vocal and performance skills, while affording additional opportunities for leadership, community, and camaraderie. Throughout the academic year, Unified Choir performs in multiple concerts.

The varsity, mixed show choir at Standing Bear High School, The Renegades is made up of students in grades 10-12 who are widely involved throughout the school in various activities from cheer to basketball, mock trial to student council, and many others. The Renegades audition in early spring, rehearse the following year from July-March, compete at 4-5 competitions throughout the season, and host The Summit, Standing Bear's annual contest.

The prep, mixed show choir at Standing Bear High School, The Rising is made up of students in grades 9-12 who are widely involved throughout the school in various activities from cheer to basketball, mock trial to student council, and many others. The Rising audition in early spring, rehearse the following year from July-March, compete at 4-5 competitions throughout the season, and host The Summit, Standing Bear's annual contest.

• Voice Lessons - We are fortunate to have time for voice lessons baked into the curricular schedule, which allow students to take one-on-one lessons for free. These sessions are a great place to work on technique and get feedback specific to your voice. If you are interested, Mr. Boe will work out a time with you.
• Musical - The Spring Musical is an extra-curricular opportunity to practice other styles of singing, improve your chops, and have fun with friends!
• Solo/Small Ensembles - Students have the opportunity to audition for and perform solo or small ensemble pieces at Solo and Small Ensemble Contest.
• All-State Chorus/Honor Choirs - All-State and many other honor choirs are great opportunities for students to grow, experience literature to which they would not otherwise be exposed, and challenge themselves musically. These ensembles are auditioned at different points throughout the year and are separate from the opportunities at Standing Bear.
